December 2018

From the Parsonage…

It’s "the most wonderful time of the year…” I can hardly believe that November is over and December is here! The months have flown by since we came to Maineville UMC, and we’re already looking forward to the Christmas season and all it entails. I’m happy to say that I’m basically

finished with my shopping and ready to enjoy the festivities that revolve around Christmas with family and friends.  Of course, these festivities are all building up to the celebration of Christ’s birth, but they also provide special opportunities to share our love and fellowship with others.

Although these events are all listed on the calendar, I’d like to draw a little extra attention to them and encourage everyone to participate. On Saturday, December 1, the Maineville congregation will gather at 10 am for the annual “Hanging of the Greens” as we decorate the church for the holidays.  On Saturday, December 8, starting at 11:30 am, we will hold our first “Ladies’ Christmas Tea.” This is a good time to invite a friend to lunch and to show off a favorite Christmas ornament or decoration. Then, on Sunday, December 16, at 7 pm, the Lightkeepers will present their annual Christmas Cantata, followed by a time of refreshments and fellowship, and on Monday, December 31, from 7 pm to 9 pm, the GPS group will host a family friendly New Year’s Eve party. Two more opportunities to share God’s love with people who may not have their own church family!

Of course, I haven’t forgotten the main focus of all these events! Most of you have heard the story of how Pastor Steve and I first met because I needed a guitar player to accompany me for special music. Obviously, it worked out well, and we eventually formed our music ministry, “Sanctuary.” Over the years since that time, we have continued to use our music to share God’s love with others through concerts, worship leading, and special presentations.  Out of all the programs we’ve done, the ones that have moved my heart the most are our Easter and Christmas arrangements.

This year, we will be presenting our original version of “The Christmas Story” at the Maineville UMC Christmas Eve service at 7 pm. This is the story of the birth of the Christ Child told through scripture and song, and the service will conclude with the traditional candle lighting. Although this may be a bit different from what you’re accustomed to on Christmas Eve, it gives us great joy to be able to share this miraculous story with you, and we hope you, your family, and your friends will be blessed by it.

          Just a baby…lying in a manger…

                                                    Blessings,

                                                      Dona
