From the Parsonage...
I was looking back at last month’s article and was struck
by something in the last paragraph, specifically relating to
the trials and tribulations that God’s people have undergone
through the years. It surely does seem like they lived under a
dark cloud at times! But then, I realized that much of what
they experienced was actually brought on due to their own
actions. Whenever the people became distant from God and
His expectations, they got hit and hit hard. Is that something only applicable to Bible stories or is it still relevant today? Do the decisions we make affect what happens around us or do we just live in a world governed by a series of accidents?
Our country is definitely at a crossroads! We stand at a point where we
could lose the very essence of what it was founded on, and it’s a time for us to
stand strong in our beliefs and make choices that will honor our faith and our God. I can’t blind myself to the fact that Christians have folded under the threat of being branded “intolerant” or “politically incorrect,” and, in doing so, they have become just as guilty of the results as those leading the charge to destroy our way of life.
Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this
world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” There is an evil working in the world that is plain to see if we just look in the spirit of truth. It’s obvious in the number of abortions that are performed on a daily basis, in the affirmation of many “lifestyles” that are taught against in the Bible, in the acceptance of rude and abusive behavior as a “right,” and in the unmitigated hatred demonstrated toward anyone and everyone who has the nerve to offer a different point of view.
Mob mentality has taken the place of common sense, and too many people
have been willing to go along to get along. That has to stop! We need to recognize the part we may have played and accept responsibility for our own actions. Then, we have to search our hearts and pray to see what God has planned for us in this fight. For fight, it is, and it’s time to admit it! The futures of our country and our families are at stake!
Blessings,
Dona
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able
to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having
your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking
the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the
wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the
word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and
watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”
Ephesians 6:13-18
