From the Parsonage…

It’s hard to believe that school has already started!  Each school year brings new opportunities to those involved.  Children are exposed to learning experiences they haven’t had before, and teachers

face a whole new group of students with various abilities.

Students and teachers will also discover things about

themselves that may make a huge difference in their

futures.  Due to their environment and the desire to do a

good job, they will find out how to use their individual gifts and talents in the best possible way.

I can’t help but think how true this is for most of us, even those who are no longer in school!  The right atmosphere, together with a desire to learn, can open our eyes to the things God has gifted us with and show us how to apply them for His glory.  No matter what our age, He has a continuing plan for us; we just need to recognize how to achieve it.

I’ve always envied people who seemed to know exactly who they were and what they wanted to accomplish at a young age.  They identified their strengths, geared their education around them, and then proceeded to use them to achieve a final goal. Many of us, however, find it difficult to look at ourselves honestly and accept what we find.  We are either too timid to believe in our talents or too conceited to see our limitations.  And because of this, we lose out on the chance to enjoy God’s plan for our lives.

Just like those young people heading back to school, I want to challenge the members of Maineville UMC to make this year a time of study and growth.  In our case, let’s use it as a time of delving into God’s word more thoroughly in order to understand the path he’s placed before us and the assets He’s provided to help us on our way.  There are several options open to us as we begin this challenge.  Just pick the one that fits your needs and time schedule.

Of course, each of us can set aside a regular time of individual Bible reading and prayer, but I truly believe that we learn best as we share in a group.  At Maineville UMC, we offer a Sunday morning Bible Study in the library at 9:30 am, a Tuesday evening Bible Study in the fellowship hall at 7:30 pm, and a Thursday morning Ladies Bible Study in the fellowship hall at 10:00 am.  These groups invite and welcome new participants to sit in at any time, and I encourage you to do so as we search out God’s plan for the years ahead.

Blessings,

Dona

that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God.”
