From the Parsonage… 

         

            When I woke up this morning, I had a hard

time realizing that Christmas is almost here!  After

another year filled with the confusion and the

restrictions of the Covid 19 pandemic, I think most

of us have learned to appreciate some of the things

we used to take for granted, and the joy of gathering

with family and friends is certainly one of them. 

Personally, I can hardly wait to start decorating,

wrapping all the gifts, preparing the menu for

Christmas Day, and even cleaning the house before my family arrives.  You’ll notice that I didn’t say anything about shopping, and that’s because I basically shop for Christmas all year, especially at the “After Christmas Sales” the year before!  Having that part of my preparations done ahead of time gives me the opportunity to focus on and enjoy all the things that have to wait until the month of December actually gets here.

 

            As I look at my calendar, I’m a little sad that there are still some traditional events that won’t take place this year, but I’m grateful for the ones that will.  Since our church family is such a big part of everything we do, I’m really looking forward to the times we’ll spend with them

during this Holiday Season.  On top of that, there’s just no other time of the year when the church looks as beautiful as it does in December, and it’s a great time to invite people to visit!

            On Saturday, December 4, the ladies of the church are invited to a “Ladies’ Christmas Tea,” where we’ll enjoy an old-fashioned tea party in the fellowship hall.  Since I’ve discovered you don’t really need a formal program when you get a bunch of gals together, this will be a time to

visit and enjoy a delicious tea luncheon.  Everyone is also asked to bring a wrapped Christmas ornament for a gift exchange and think of a memorable Christmas they can share with the group.

            Christmas Eve is such a treasured time, and Pastor Steve and I will be presenting “The Christmas Story” at 7 pm that evening.  For those of you who have missed it in the past, this is the story of the birth of Christ told by combining scripture and songs, and it concludes with the traditional candle lighting.  We’re excited to add some new songs to the program this year that we feel will add even more meaning to our original version.  (At least, I’m excited…it means more songs for Pastor Steve to figure out!)  And…since this will be our last time to share this with you, it’s more special than ever for us!

            As I look forward to everything December brings to me, I pray that God blesses each of you with good health, with the joy of family and friends, and with a renewed faith in the Child He sent to save the world.
